The street view in Google Earth VR has been updated continuously over the years, so I assume it is using the same data set as desktop Google street view. I think it would be cost prohibitive to make a separate version just for VR.

I used a Sidequest app called Plutosphere where you can get access to a gaming-grade cloud computing PC for just $1.99/hour (cheaper if you buy in bulk) and it worked a treat with very little latency. Firstly, you'll need Sidequest enabled.

If I'm bored I can just load up Earth VR and create a game within it. One of my favorite ideas was to try to fly around and find all the putt putt golf courses in Myrtle Beach.
