I'm just wondering about security. Will we need to worry about our phones, cameras, etc left on the beach while swimming and snorkelling. We have had some things taken while on a different island and it has made us a little nervous.

There are vendors selling wares and people roaming on the beaches - so you should not leave anything out. If you have valuables - the public beach does have a security guard at the wash house and there is a life guard shack...also the beach chair $5/pp if you find them can hold on to your stuff. Might recommend going to the boat yard $25 US per person, includes chairs and there is a full bar/restaurant onsite - they can secure any any valuables

When you arrive at Browne's Beach, you will see many locals who work for a few different excursion companies. You can pay them cash, and do the excursion the same day. Their typical excursions are going on a brief boat ride, and swimming and snorkeling above a ship wreck and snorkeling with sea turtles. This excursion is between $25 - 40 USD, and lasts an hour. I also saw a large Private's Ship, but I'm not sure what that one involves and for how much. In summary, bring cash, and book your excursion at the beach and you'll be able to enjoy it the same day.
