I've never been to Dollywood. Was considering going the 1st weekend of May and going to the park on a Friday instead of Saturday. Anyone ever been this time of year? Is Friday less crowded than Saturday? Also, is it really so crowded that I would need to pay extra for Reserved Parking? Any suggestions/pointers for 1st-timers are appreciated.

First weekend in May may be less crowded. I have been Mothers Day weekend on Saturday and it was extremely crowded. We had very long wait time for rides. I notice there are no big events the first weekend in May in Pigeon Forge. There are big events on the second and third weekend. Then Memorial Day weekend. I don't think you need to reserve parking. I would get there before the park opens because there may be a line of cars to get in. Then you wait for trolly to pick you up to take you to the entrance. Look up the schedule of the shows for the day. Select the ones you want to see and try to plan so you are not backtracking or criss crossing the park. You will be able to do more if you do rides in areas where there is a show you want to see.
