Detroit Tigers OF Riley Greene is hitting .280 with 12 homer, 15 walks and 62 strikeouts in 50 games, including .320 in 33 games entering Saturday.

A sixth-inning solo home run by Spencer Torkelson was the only thing standing between the Tigers and back-to-back shutouts, as the Guardians beat them for a second straight night at Comerica Park, 3-1, on Friday.

José Ramírez tripled and scored in a two-run first inning and Slade Cecconi gave up a run and five hits over six innings as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Detroit Tigers 3-1.

ST. LOUIS – The Detroit Tigers hadn’t lost a series opener since Houston back in late April. They were 13-2 coming into their three-game series with the Cardinals. Now they’re 13-3, mostly thanks to Sonny Gray, who apparently likes to pitch against the Tigers, and stifled them as St. Louis won 11-4.

The Guardians jumped on Tigers rookie Jackson Jobe early. Steven Kwan led off the game with a double, and José Ramírez tripled him home two batters later to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. Ramírez then scored on Carlos Santana’s infield single.

Remember at the beginning of the month when the Tigers were scoring 10 runs or more seemingly every other game? That was fun. The end of the month is proving to be less fertile for the offense.

Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres — who signed a one-year, $15 million contract — is hitting .277 with five home runs across 38 games.
