General Motors has announced a large investment in future V8 engines at a time when other automakers have been retreating from them. The auto giant says it’s putting $888 million into its Tonawanda Propulsion plant in preparation for the production of the sixth generation of its V8 engines,

General Motors will invest $888 million in the production of a new-generation V8 but also in building more L87 engines at its New York plant

The company said the investment marks its largest single investment in an engine plant, and makes Tonawanda its second propulsion plant to produce the sixth generation of V-8 engines.
