NBA insider Jake Fischer reported Saturday that "the Mavericks, either using that option as the starting point for an extension or based on an entirely new deal, have been hoping to re-secure Irving under contract for the next three seasons in the same annual ballpark of $40 million.”

Few teams in the NBA have had as eventful a past six months as the Dallas Mavericks, trading Luka Dončić to the Lakers for Anthony Davis, seeing Davis go down with an injury shortly after the trade, missing the playoffs and then somehow winning the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes in the NBA Draft lottery.

The Mavericks are hoping to get an extension done with Kyrie Irving this offseason as they move forward into 2025-26.
