Much of metro Atlanta was under a flash flood emergency on Friday morning as the region felt the effects of Tropical Storm Helene, which brought 70 mph winds to Georgia.

Authorities across a wide swath of the southeastern United States faced the daunting task on Saturday of cleaning up from Hurricane Helene, one of the most powerful to hit the country, as the death toll continued to rise.

The storm spiraled through multiple states after making landfall late Thursday in Florida. Damages were extensive across hundreds of miles.
