A migrant from Guatemala has been arrested for allegedly lighting a sleeping subway rider on fire in Brooklyn on Sunday morning — then watching as his innocent victim burned to death in what the New York's top cop called “one of the most depraved crimes one person could possibly commit.

The man arrested on murder and arson charges in the death of a woman who was set on fire inside a subway train has been arraigned, while police said the identity of the victim was still “pending.”

Police arrested a man they said set a woman on fire while she appeared to be asleep on a New York City subway train on Sunday morning, killing her.

Police have defended their response, beginning when officers patrolling the station smelled and saw smoke coming from the F train.

A man accused of lighting a woman’s clothes on fire aboard a New York City subway was arraigned in Brooklyn criminal court on Tuesday for first and second degree murder charges in addition to arson according to the Associated Press.

The suspect, identified by police as Sebastian Zapeta, was taken into custody hours after the woman died on Sunday morning.
