The man who survived the Key Bridge collapse and the families of six who died sued the companies behind the cargo ship that felled the span.

A road work inspector who made it to safety just before the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed last March is planning to file a claim, according to an attorney.

The Justice Department alleges that mechanical and electrical systems on the massive ship had been "jury-rigged" and improperly maintained, culminating in a power outage moments before it crashed into a support column on the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March.
