The death toll of an Ohio train crash has risen to three after a 5-year-old child was found dead near the site of the collision. A 14-month-old child who was hospitalized in critical condition is reportedly the sole survivor.
Emergency crews were searching the Sandusky River in Fremont the evening of May 18 looking for victims who encountered a train on the downtown trestle bridge.
The fishing community in Fremont is still trying to come to terms with the tragedy that unfolded Sunday night. Some of them even witnessed the child’s body being recovered from the water Monday morning.
The people who died are believed to be a mother and daughter, ages 58 and 38, from Fort Wayne, Indiana, as well as a 5-year-old, the mayor said. The 5-year-old’s body was found in the Sandusky River on May 19.

The collision happened around 7 p.m. on Sunday on the Miles Newton Bridge near Hayes Avenue. David Greenberg reports from Fremont.
