Travel in and out of much of Western North Carolina is nearly impossible after heavy rains and flooding battered the state in the path of Hurricane Helene.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is considering all roads in western North Carolina closed to the public as they provide emergency assistance. According to a post on X, there is an Interstate 40 washout near the Tennesee line.

Western North Carolina has been essentially cut off because of landslides and flooding that forced the closure of Interstate 40 and other roads. Video shows sections of Asheville underwater.
