In a matter of days, Apple will launch iPhone software which is strikingly different to what’s available now — even down to the naming.

Apple iPhone fans may soon feel like their parents, who had to watch their baby grow up way too fast. The latest reports suggest the tech giant won’t stick to its old naming convention. The expected iOS 19 will instead be called iOS 26 to line up with the year following now.

Apple’s operating systems are currently named based on their version numbers, which is why some aren’t aligned. However, iPadOS and tvOS are on version 18 despite not having 18 versions, while macOS arbitrarily began at version 11 in 2020. This shift will make it much easier for users to know which version they’re using.
