U.S. Open quarter-finalist Beatriz Haddad Maia overcame first-set jitters in the Korea Open final to beat top seed Daria Kasatkina 1-6 6-4 6-1, winning the first WTA 500 singles title of her career on Sunday.

During the past two years, Haddad Maia has the advantage over Kasatkina, 2-1 in three head-to-head matches. Their last one, at the Abu Dhabi WTA Women's Tennis Open on February 10, 2024, went to Kasatkina 6-3, 4-6, 7-6.
