Trump deployed 4,000 National Guardsmen and 700 Marines to LA against the wishes of Newsom and Bass. Newsom sued the Trump administration, saying they unlawfully "trampled over" California’s sovereignty when they federalized the California National Guard.

The Los Angeles Police Department moved swiftly on Wednesday night to quell disorder stemming from anti-deportation protests, charging crowds on horses and firing “less lethal” munitions to clear protesters.

With a curfew again imposed on downtown L.A. on Wednesday, several local businesses are closing earlier, canceling events — or not changing plans at all.

The curfew was ordered as Mayor Bass declared that nights of protests that had sometimes dissolved into vandalism and looting had reached a “tipping point.”

The curfew was instated on Tuesday after days of protests against a string of immigration enforcement operations throughout Southern California. Bass said the curfew will be enacted daily until it's no longer deemed necessary.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said that an overnight curfew for downtown neighborhoods will remain in effect indefinitely.
