Astronomers initially thought the building-sized 2024 YR4 had a 3% chance of hitting Earth on December 22, 2032, but later analysis showed the rock was not going to collide with our planet.

NASA has continuously been monitoring 2024 YR4 since it was first reported on Dec. 27 by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System station in Chile.

While Earthlings may be safe, our latest glance of the asteroid in May, courtesy of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, led the agency to conclude that YR4 now has an even higher chance of colliding with the moon in 2032 — though the chance still rests at only 4.3%
