Mary Sheffield and the Rev. Solomon Kinloch were named winners in Tuesday's primary election for the Detroit mayoral race and will advance to the November general election, AP projects.

Kinloch closely defeated former THAW CEO Saunteel Jenkins in the city's Aug. 5 primary to advance in the race, according to unofficial vote results on the city's website. Sheffield collected approximately 51% of the vote,

In November, Detroit voters will decide between Mary Sheffield and Solomon Kinloch when they vote for their next mayor. Sheffield dominated in the primary election, while Kinloch narrowly beat Saunteel Jenkins.
