The Twins enjoyed a stroll in the ballpark Sunday, waltzing to a 7-1 victory over the walk-happy Rockies. Colorado pitchers issued four leadoff walks — three by starter German Marquez — and Minnesota hit four home runs, denying Colorado a rare three-game sweep at Coors Field.
Royce Lewis doubled his home run total with a two-homer game. The Twins scored all of their runs on homers and triples.
DENVER — On Friday, the Twins fell victim to a pitcher, Kyle Freeland, whose 10 losses were tied for third-most in the majors. On Saturday, they lost to his teammate, Antonio Senzatela, a starter who boasts a league-leading 13 losses.
BOTTOM LINE: The Minnesota Twins play the Colorado Rockies after Ryan Jeffers had four hits against the Rockies on Friday. Colorado is 23-74 overall and 11-36 in home games. The Rockies have gone 16-33 in games when they record eight or more hits.
The Minnesota Twins are predicted to trade former Gold Glove outfielder Harrison Bader at the trade deadline as the Detroit Tigers run away with the division.
Zebby Matthews makes his grand return in the second game out of the All-Star break. Unfortunately for him, a pitcher with a history of home run issues, it will be against the Rockies in Coors Field. Zebby’s pitch count will likely be limited as he made only a single rehab appearance after missing about six weeks.
