The Monkey Island series followed Guybrush Threepwood ... same post-Return of The Jedi time period as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka, and that's no accident.

The film’s narrative also diverges substantially, including the eventual fate of the monkey. Like the movie, the book follows Hal, whose childhood was haunted by the seemingly cursed monkey.
