After nearly five months, the iconic beach route opens to the public on Friday, much to the relief of struggling Malibu restaurants and retailers who have been on "an island" blocked from L.A.

Los Angeles County Public Works has reopened Tuna Canyon Road in the Santa Monica Mountains, effective Friday, May 23 at 8 a.m. The scenic canyon road was closed in January during the Palisades Fire.

Pacific Coast Highway, which has been largely off-limits to all but residents, first responders and cleanup crews since the Jan. 7 Palisades Fire, will reopen to all traffic at 8 a.m. Friday. Gov. Gavin Newsom had previously announced that the roadway between Malibu and Santa Monica would be reopened by the end of May.
