The NJ Transit board of directors authorized the agency to make a major purchase toward the continued modernization of its bus fleet.

The buses won't arrive for three years. Another 1,235 buses will still need to be purchased to replace the agency’s entire fleet of 2,300 buses.

The approval comes amid uncertainty over federal grants awarded to NJ Transit. The agency has been unable to access those funds since the Trump administration sought to stop funding some projects.
