Police say they were called just after 9pm after a 71-year-old man appeared to have been struck by a car while trying to cross the second lane on Eccles Old Road, Salford, on Saturday May 3.

"The 71-year-old pedestrian was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. "The driver, a 68-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He remains in police custody.
