DES MOINES, Wash. — The Des Moines Police Department is trying to find the person who shot a man in the knee Tuesday morning. It happened around 6:30 a.m. on 6th Avenue South. The man was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive. No word on his condition.

Authorities say the suspect shot by Des Moines police officers Thursday night has died. According to a news release, the shooting happened around 8:40 pm. Thursday in the 1200 block of Maury Street on the southeast side of Des Moines,

The number of police killings has risen sharply — Des Moines police killed five people between 2015 and 2022, according to data from the Washington Post's police shootings database. That's fewer deaths in seven years than there has been in seven months in Des Moines.
