The man tasked with planning a Donald Trump assassination attempt also was linked to murder plot of journalist speaking to Fairfield University, officials say.

The Department of Justice has charged an Iranian man and two residents of New York who are suspected in murder-for-hire plots targeting then-candidate Donald Trump and others. Officials said the suspects traveled to Fairfield University in an attempt to find one of their intended targets who was scheduled to appear there.

An outspoken journalist had been targeted by an Iranian terrorist organization on at least two other occasions, officials said.
