Onychomycosis, or fungal infection of the nail, most often affects the toenails. Infected nails usually have a thick, yellow appearance and can become coarse and brittle (see Figure 4).

They might compulsively pull their hair, which is called trichotillomania, pick their skin, which is called dermatillomania or excoriation disorder, or bite their nails, which is called onychophagia.
