A winter storm is expected to hit Michigan Wednesday and with it, between four to six inches of snow is expected to fall in some parts of the state. The storm should begin over western and southwestern Lower Michigan this afternoon and cross the state throughout the evening.

Heavy snow will begin falling Wednesday evening and continue into Thursday morning. Here's how much to expect.

The winter storm that swept across the state starting Wednesday dumped varying amounts snow in southeast Michigan, according to the National Weather Service. The snowfall and wintry conditions sparked dozens of school closures,

Overnight, 3-6 inches of snow blanketed southeast Michigan making morning commutes to work Thursday treacherous and closing hundreds of schools and districts, including the Detroit Public Schools, the largest one in the state.

Snow has begun to fall in Michigan, where FOX Weather Correspondent Brandy Campbell reports while on ice skates. She speaks with two Grand Rapids residents and fellow ice skaters about how they've enjoyed the recent snowfall.

In southeast Michigan and the Thumb area, the counties under a warning include Huron, Sanilac, St. Clair and Macomb. To the north, the counties under a warning include Alpena, Alcona, Ogemaw, Iosco, Gladwin and Arenac.

Southeast Michigan is now predicted to see anywhere between 5-12 inches of snow as a winter storm hits the entire Lower Peninsula.
