Virginia Speaker of the House Don Scott announced the establishment of a $100,000 endowed scholarship in honor of his wife during his commencement address at Hampton University last Sunday.

He met the woman he would marry — Mellanda Colson, a dentist — and began climbing the corporate ladder, landing in Portsmouth more than a dozen years ago as an executive vice president.
