Getting there: From Jerome, go 7 miles southwest on SR 89A to Mingus Mountain Road (FR 104). Turn left and go 2.4 miles to where FR 104 ends at a T intersection in the campground.

The mid-August weekend day arrived with little promise of storms. I wanted a mountain hike fused into the weekend -- as such highland hikes are quickly aborted on days with threatening weather.
