Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers trainer to be honored by Pro Football Hall of Fame
Norwig was inducted into the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame in 2015, the highest honor someone in the profession can receive in the state. A graduate of Penn State, Norwig headed to Pittsburgh after working at Vanderbilt for seven years as their head trainer. He started his career as an intern with the San Francisco 49ers.

John Norwig was a trainer for 43 years, and the head trainer for the Steelers for 32 years. He achieved many milestones, including hiring the NFL’s first full-time female athletic trainer in 2002.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey and guard David DeCastro will both be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026. Pouncey and DeCastro both last played in 2020, which would mark the end of an era for the Steelers on their offensive line.
