PORTLAND — The last time the Detroit Pistons and their fan base notched a playoff win, Chauncey Billups was the team’s starting point guard. That was 2008. Not to pick at a wound that may not yet be healed fully, or at all, but that was the same year Kevin Durant won NBA Rookie of the Year.

The Portland Trail Blazers blew yet another opportunity to gain ground on the Dallas Mavericks in the race for the Western Conference’s final play-in berth on Sunday night. The Blazers returned home from a seven-game trip (4-3) to lose 119-112 to the Detroit Pistons at the Moda Center.

After building a lead of 18 points, the Pistons thwarted a significant comeback attempt by the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Portland Trail Blazers should have major beef with the NBA schedule makers. After playing seven road games, the Blazers returned home to host Detroit on Sunday. Following a 119-112 loss, the Blazers got on a plane headed for San Francisco to play Monday at the Golden State Warriors.

As much as the Trail Blazers have improved this year, their offense is still inconsistent under Chauncey Billups. Portland is 24th in points per game with 110.5 and 24th in offensive rating (111.4) behind an attack outside the Top 20 in the league in field goal percentage, 3-point percentage, and free throw percentage.
