Your car is probably steered by a rack and pinion system, but you've probably also heard of a power steering system. Here's everything you should know.

It has a rack gear for each rail and a pinion gear on the cage. The pinion gear engages the teeth on the rack and controls the cage's position, keeping it centered.

Depending on how they are manufactured, rack-and-pinion drives can deliver very precise motion, rivaling or exceeding that of ballscrews and even linear motors.
