California is once again being drenched by an atmospheric river-driven storm — but by the time a storm is in the forecast, it’s most often too late for homeowners to buy flood insurance.

Rain later Thursday into Friday could again raise the risk of flooding, with around a half-inch to an inch of rain or more expected for most of Connecticut.

And guess what? Flood terms have their own alphabet soup. Flood warnings, watches and advisories all come from the National Weather Service (NWS) with a specific coverage area and timespan.
