Most alcohol-related St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in South Boston will end by 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 16. In anticipation of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, liquor stores will close by 4 p.m. as usual on Sundays.

The parade was plagued last year by public drinking, violence, assaults, overcrowding, and disorderly conduct, officials said.

Presented by the South Boston Allied War Veterans Council, the Southie parade full of colorful floats, marching bands, bagpipes and dancing celebrates not only St. Patrick's Day, but also Evacuation Day, when the British left Boston during the Revolutionary War.
