Gov. Ron DeSantis is in a standoff with Florida's legislative leaders that has devolved into a test of his power and influence over the state. At issue: a slate of immigration reforms that lawmakers named after President Trump and approved in place of DeSantis' own proposals.

Among other things, legislative leaders want to remove the governor’s ability to declare state of emergencies over immigration.

"They think by putting the name of a strong president on a weak bill that is somehow going to pull the wool over the eyes."
