A large part of South Texas is reeling from life-threatening flooding that began overnight and continued into Friday morning.

Flooding in the Rio Grande Valley has left at least four people dead, forcing water rescues in several counties and causing widespread power outages and school closures.

News footage from flooded communities showed multiple waterlogged cars abandoned on streets and drivers waiting on sidewalks sidewalks for the floodwaters to recede.
