NASA’s Parker Solar Probe has successfully completed its record-breaking flyby, coming within just 3.8 million miles (6.1 million kilometers) of the solar surface on Christmas Eve.

A Nasa spacecraft is in “good health” after going closer to the Sun than anything ever has, the space agency has said. The Parker Solar Probe appears to have successfully completed a journey to within 3.8 million miles of the Sun’s surface as part of its mission to explore the still mysterious processes that power it.

NASA received a beacon tone from Parker Solar Probe on Dec. 27, 2024, after the spacecraft emerged from behind the sun three days after its close encounter with the sun.
