Warner Bros. Discovery announced plans in 2023 to develop a new live-action Harry Potter series, with each book in the main franchise to be adapted into one of seven seasons that will come out over 10 years on cable network HBO and its streaming platform HBO Max.

HBO’s new “Harry Potter” series has cast Dominic McLaughlin to play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton in the role of Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. In the original movie franchise, the roles were played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, respectively.

HBO can still develop a significant storyline involving Hermione and the house elves while staying true to the character and adding depth to the series. HBO's Harry Potter will have a lot of pressure on it to feel unique from the movie series in a quest to give fans a fresh perspective on JK Rowling's iconic stories.
