A key House committee voted late Wednesday evening to advance President Donald Trump’s legislative agenda to the House floor after marathon proceedings that lasted almost 22 hours, setting up a high-stakes vote in the chamber and a showdown between warring wings of the Republican conference.

The bill also contains a controversial provision that says it cannot be challenged in state court before it is enforced. It goes now to the House for a full vote.

The poorest fifth of Americans would receive 1 percent of the House reconciliation bill's net tax cuts in 2026 while the richest fifth of Americans would receive two-thirds of the tax cuts. The richest 5 percent alone would receive a little less than half of the net tax cuts that year.

LGBTQ advocates have said the legislation would out transgender patients to medical professionals who might be hostile to them over their identity.

The provision is a result of a last-minute change to the bill before its passage out of the House early Thursday.
