Pritzker, Illinois and House committee

Democratic "sanctuary governors" will face a barrage of tough questions at a highly anticipated congressional hearing Thursday morning, as California Gov. Gavin Newsom and President Donald Trump continue to throw jabs over immigration policy.
Pritzker provided the committee with a five-page opening statement, in which he’ll highlight the state’s response to the migrant crisis and tout that crime is down in Illinois, in an effort to tackle the unproven rhetoric that immigrants who lack legal status are a major source of violence.
House Oversight Chair James Comer requested in April that these Democratic governors testify, claiming that the "Trump administration is taking decisive action to deport criminal illegal aliens from our nation, but reckless sanctuary states like Illinois, Minnesota, and New York are actively seeking to obstruct federal immigration enforcement."
In testimony before Congress, Gov. JB Pritzker will defend Illinois' handling of the migrant crisis and slams federal immigration failures.
Pritzker is preparing for Thursday's House Oversight and Government Reform Committee appearance with the help of Dana Remus, former White House counsel to President Biden. He's also reviewing Mayor Brandon Johnson's committee testimony — and talking to former Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
