Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope have captured breathtakingly detailed images of two giant exoplanets orbiting a distant sun-like star. These observations revealed sand-like silicate clouds in one planet s atmosphere and an unexpected disk around another that may be forming moons something previously seen only in much younger systems.
Using the James Webb Space Telescope, scientists have directly imaged two massive, youthful exoplanets in the YSES-1 system—revealing silicate clouds, a moon-forming disk, and some of the most detailed exoplanet atmospheres ever studied.
Europa has long been a prime target in the search for extraterrestrial biology because scientists suspect it harbors a subsurface ocean beneath its icy crust, potentially teeming with microbial life. But the robot—packed with radiation shielding, cutting-edge software, and ice-drilling appendages—won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
