ISLAMABAD — A Pakistani court on Friday sentenced the country’s already-imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife to 14 and seven years in jail after finding them guilty of corruption, officials and his lawyer said.

A Pakistani court sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan to 14 years imprisonment on Friday in a land corruption case, a setback to nascent talks between his party and the government aimed at cooling political instability in the south Asian nation.

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were convicted in the £190m Al-Qadir University Project Trust case on Friday. Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison, while Bushra Bibi received a seven-year jail term.

Sheikh Waqqas Akram announces that an appeal would be filed in the higher judiciary within days to challenge the ruling.

He termed the court's decision, sentencing PTI founder Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, in the Al-Qadir Trust case, as 'shameful, a blatant travesty of justice, and a murder of justice'.
