Pentecost is the definitive gift of the Holy Spirit. What do I mean by “definitive?” It is the final, fullest outpouring of the Spirit. God’s Spirit has been active in the world from the start.
“Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, And they shall renew the face of the earth.” ...
I need the reminder to rest. To pause and remember that praying “Come, Holy Spirit” begins by stopping to draw breath, in order to ask God to breathe the Spirit into the church and the world.
