MU (15-3, 6-1 Big East) suffered its first regular-season setback at home since last season's finale against Connecticut. The Golden Eagles needed to scrap for their last two conference victories, rallying from 14 points down to beat Georgetown and then needing overtime to beat DePaul on Tuesday.

David Joplin led Marquette with 18 points and guard Stevie Mitchell was huge down the stretch, scoring seven straight to cut Xavier's lead to 53-49 at the final media timeout.
