One person was killed and at least 11 others injured early Sunday when gunfire broke out during a house party in Catawba County, North Carolina, authorities said.

The Catawba County Sheriff's Office said authorities responded to a report of multiple persons shot at a residence on Walnut Acres Drive.

One police officer was killed and another was injured after a shooting Saturday evening in a city east of Los Angeles, authorities said. Another person was found dead. An adult male suspect was wounded but has been taken into custody,

The suspect opened fire on officers, hitting a female officer multiple times,” according to a police statement.

Less than five minutes later, officers successfully used stop sticks, ending the chase on Goldmine Road near River Chase Drive. The suspect, 18-year-old Joshua Hayden Sikes, opened fire and struck a female officer multiple times. She was taken to a local hospital and is now in stable condition, police said.
