The daughter of a 53-year-old French woman who fell victim to an elaborate social media scam involving an imposter posing as Hollywood star Brad Pitt has broken her silence. Speaking on the program La Grande Semaine on Saturday, Margot addressed the public criticism her mother has faced since the story became public.

After reportedly telling the scammer that she had recently divorced her husband, Anne sent almost all of her €775,000 divorce settlement — about $798,000 — after the fake Pitt said he had developed kidney cancer and needed a loan because his bank accounts were locked as a result of his ongoing divorce proceedings with Angelina Jolie .

The scammers apparently convinced the woman that “Brad” needed money for cancer treatment by sending her numerous AI-generated images depicting the movie star in the hospital.

Brad Pitt is not on social media, his team reminded fans, after a French woman said she was conned out of $800,000 by scammers posing as the A-list actor.
