Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna said on Sunday that she reached an agreement with House Speaker Mike Johnson over her push to allow new parents to vote by proxy, after a standoff between the two Republicans that left the House paralyzed for a week.

The House speaker suffered an embarrassing defeat during a procedural vote last week that would have killed the Florida congresswoman's discharge petition.

The Democratic sponsors of legislation empowering new parents to vote remotely are rejecting a recent alternative from Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) designed to block the proxy vote legislation
