The Chargers have started talks about a new contract with left tackle Rashawn Slater, but it doesn't look like things are progressing as quickly as Slater would like them to move.

Slater awaits a contract extension, and while OTAs are voluntary, he may be sitting out as a negotiation tactic. This is the first time he has missed an opening OTAs session in his professional career. Slater is entering the final year of his deal, which is the fifth-year option Los Angeles picked up a year ago, and is due $19.04 million.

Only three players missed Tuesday’s optional practice: tackle Rashawn Slater, offensive lineman Trey Pipkins III and edge rusher Bud Dupree.
