The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced on Friday that it had sanctioned a China-based cybersecurity company, known as Sichuan Juxinhe Network Technology, which it says is directly linked to the China-backed Salt Typhoon hacking group.

The Treasury Department has announced sanctions in connection with a massive Chinese hack of American telecommunications companies and a breach of its own computer network.

The sanctions target a Chinese hacker who officials say is affiliated with Beijing's Ministry of State Security and was involved in a cyberintrusion disclosed last month that gave hackers access to an untold number of Treasury Department workstations.

The Biden administration on Friday announced sanctions on two Chinese entities accused of cyberattacks, including a firm it said is directly involved in the recent espionage campaign against US telecommunications firms and a hacker behind the recent breach of Treasury Department computers.

The US sanctioned Yin Kecheng, linked to China's MSS, for hacking the Treasury Department, and Sichuan Juxinhe Network Technology Co., tied to Salt Typhoon, for targeting US telecoms and politicians like Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
