Massive wildfires burning out of control in western and central Canada are forcing thousands to flee. The blazes are also beginning to send hazardous smoke toward major cities in the United States.

Authorities in Manitoba, which shares a border with the U.S., issued a state of emergency. Winds will likely blow wildfire smoke into Midwestern states.

Due to the wildfires, smoke will be moving southward toward the Midwest including the metro starting on Friday. Expect hazy skies and possibly bad air quality starting early Friday morning and continuing through the weekend. If you’re sensitive to the smoke, you may want to limit your time outside for the next few days.
