The United States and Finland will meet in the World Junior Hockey Championship final after earning hard-fought semifinal victories on Saturday in

Despite Canada’s loss and elimination Thursday, a few New Brunswick players had a chance to shine at the world junior hockey championship in Ottawa.

The Americans avenged a 4-3 overtime loss to Finland in group play, overcoming a two-goal deficit in the second period to win their second straight junior worlds title and seventh overall.

The Americans will face Czechia in Saturday’s quarterfinals; Sweden and Finland also advanced to the semifinals.

The global hockey event will unfold in the Twin Cities between Dec. 26, 2025, and Jan. 5, 2026, as the U.S. goes for a gold medal three-peat.

Team USA is the winner of the 2025 World Junior Hockey championship in Ottawa, Canada, and the countdown is on for the next edition of the event. That starts in December and even organizers are taking lessons learned in Canada back to Minnesota.
