In its statement released Monday, the MDTA said it started a $160 million project in the spring of 2024 to evaluate and study bridge protection at the Bay Bridge. The project has since been completed.

The Hopkins report comes just days after the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) called for risk assessments at 68 bridges nationally. The Bay Bridge is on their list, too.
